A long drought, weeks and weeks, only the lagerstroemias (summer lilacs) add floral colour… but the house is full almost all month: French artists (a couple); a Franco-American-Lebanese family, then a whole clan of Parisians, journalists mainly, full of charm and curiosity…

For five nights, Tristan Soler and his wife femme Sarah, grand-daughter of composer André Jolivet and daughter of painter Merri Jolivet.  Sarah tried her own hand at drawing and watercolours during here stay at Rousselonge, whereas Tristan, whose reputation is already well established, finished no less than 24 garden scenes. http://www.tristansolerpaintings.com et tristansolersculptures.com  See the French blog for his own description of his work and the Galery for photos of these works, and one of his five poems. Mid-August, a family from Colorado (Mum French, Dad American, artist and art teacher) came to leave their children here for two weeks: Dylan, a garden maker but unwell at the moment, and Mawra, Lebanese, working on a thesis in anthropology for the Ecole de Hautes Etudes in Paris. The kids spent their time between the kitchen terrace, the library and the pool, not much on the land. It was exceptionally hot much of the time.

Overlapping slightly, the Barron family arrived also for two weeks: my old friends Edwige and Philippe and their two daughters. Edwige is both journalist and psychoanalyst, arriving right after a colloquium at Cérisy on psychoanalysis and cinema  (the organizer came also for two days to recover). Hannah Barron has worked with France Culture and this summer interviewed David Moinard for the Grande Table, David is artistic director of our nearly Watershed Line art train (see July http://www.lepartagedeseaux.fr/).  Olivia is a playwright and director preparing a new production, but she also writes her blog for Le Monde http://oliviabarron.blog.lemonde.fr .  Her partner Jean Morizot writes for Le Parisien.  Good journalists, they were keenly curious about everything. This is their second year and they plan to return.

They took the sun with them when they left, we suddenly fell into fall, except for the continuing drought…
